OUTmentor

OUTmentor is a mentoring program for SGM/LGBTQIA+ identifying faculty, staff, and trainees at the School of Medicine.  It is sponsored by the Office of Diversity Programs, OUTmed, and LGBTQmed.  It is currently open to all departments and programs within the School of Medicine.

The mission of OUTmentor is to:

  1. Provide support, guidance, and resources for professional development.
  2. Create connections and exposure to the LGBTQIA+ community across the campus.

Program Logistics:

  1. OUTmentor is for individuals who identify on the spectrum of LGBTQIA+.
  2. The commitment is one year, January – December.
  3. Mentorship groups consist of 4-6 members, usually 1 mentor and 3-5 trainees (fellows/residents/students) and staff. Groups are generally within the same training program (MD or PhD).
  4. Mentorship groups are paired to form “sibling groups.” Generally, sibling groups will cross training programs (MD family to PhD family).
  5. Each family meets a minimum of 2 times per year, and at least once with their “sibling group.”
  6. There are 2 sponsored events that everyone is encouraged to attend along with opportunities to join various OUTmed events.
  7. Each year, groups are changed. This allows all participants to meet more people from our community and create more connections.
  8. Groups are randomly assigned each year, although there is a preference to be placed in groups outside of your chosen profession. For example, a pediatrician may be paired with a psychiatry resident. All medical students are considered undifferentiated.
  9. Groups are not created based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

Registration is open from November – December each year.  If you are interested in signing up after these dates, please email Meghan Campbell, PhD at meghanc@wustl.edu.
